Everyone's a Star

Online fame is everywhere, weather its a popular blogger, a YouTube star, or a up and coming model. Everyday, people set out to become famous, its a pretty common dream, its the American Dream, actually.

There is a whole slew of stars that got their start on the internet. If you have any real talent in, say, the music industry, chances are if you post enough videos someone will discover you. Take Justin Bieber for example – a 15 year old who currently has four songs on top 40 radio stations across the nation. He got his start on YouTube (roughly 3 years ago) singing covers of popular hip-hop songs until one day he was discovered by Usher. Just the other day I heard his new song playing on the radio and it is featuring Ludacris! According to Wikipedia he is “the only artist in Billboard history to have four singles from a debut album chart in the Top 40 of the Hot 100 before the album’s release.”

If I could sing I would be all over the YouTube trend – why not? It gets you the most exposure the quickest, and it obviously pays off.

YouTube Adds Official Music Service

Almost everyone I know uses YouTube to listen to music, but the problem that many people often encounter is the sound and video quality of the music. On many occasions I have a hard time trying to find the song I want to listen to that isn’t a low grade version of said song. In addition to this, there is also the problem of copyright infringement, and many recording companies do not allow their music to be played on YouTube.

Well a few companies have decided to try and fix this problem. On December 8, 2009, VEVO was launched. VEVO is a music video and entertainment website owned by Sony, Universal Music Group, and Abu Dhabi Media Company, and hosted on YouTube. This service gives music lovers a legal way to watch their favorite music videos and concert recordings in high quality. I have used VEVO a small amount, and have found the quality and availability of music to be pretty good. VEVO should prove to be a good addition to an already great YouTube website.

Do the Cha Cha

The website ChaCha is by far one of the coolest I’ve come across. It works in two ways, one is via cell phone, the other is web-based. Text any question you can imagine to 242-242 and you will get a response within minutes – in my personal experience it only takes around 20 seconds. You can also configure your ChaCha settings based upon your location and keep up to date on local news and weather. ChaCha also does stock quotes as well as virtually any question you could ever possibly have. The only catch – if you’re asking through text messaging – is that your question and answer are limited to 160 characters. If you update your settings on ChaCha.com, all of your previous questions will come up, allowing the person answering the questions to get a better idea of your question history. You can also call them or go onto their website to see all of the questions their millions of users have asked.

This is definitely worth it, so try it out. Text 242-242 and see for yourself.

Gettin' Linked

The website LinkedIn is a tool used to reconnect with old friends, classmates, and colleagues. The website’s most important function enables employers to post want ads on the internet. Conversely, employees and businessmen use this as a forum for discussion relating to their jobs and helpful tips on how to maintain their career amidst the economic crisis.

As a result, this website has become increasingly popular as graduated college students go out into the world searching for jobs. Many professionals have begun to use LinkedIn as a way to provide free help for struggling businessmen looking for help. In my opinion, this is a great tool to utilize whether it be for career advice or finding a new job.
