News Site or Fun Boredom Buster?

I had never been on http://digg.com/ before I checked it out this past weekend.  At first glance it seems like a news site.  There are links to a variety of articles and video from various sources.  After looking through the site and seeing how it operates i’m not sure that it is the best source of news.  I found out about a lot of subjects that I would have never seen if I hadn’t visited Digg.  However, if I wanted to see the most recent news results it would probably be better to just go to http://www.foxnews.com/ or http://www.cnn.com/ I’m not saying that Digg isn’t usefully I just think its more of a way to kill time and browse to see what kinda stuff other people like.  I came in to Digg with a certain perception and after seeing what it is I realize my perception was wrong.  Just because my perception changed doesn’t mean that I don’t dig the site, I’ll actually probably being going back once or twice a day to see what new stuff people linked to.  What about you?

Digging During Class

Digg is perfect for college students to pass the time during class. I enjoy the random articles that are about off the wall things. There was an article posted on Digg called “50 Awesome Young Me/Now Me Photos” where people did the same pose they did in the old picture. Anything that is somewhat amusing can get me through 50 minutes of class. I am in fact writing this during class to help pass those 50 minutes. Another favorite are vides of people fighting especially hockey fights or women fighting. I think Digg is a wonderful thing to keep me up on the most important current events especially when is about 8 ex’s you don’t want to get involved with.

Myspace go bye bye

Think back to when you were in 6th grade. Sitting at home on a school night on the computer, 95% of students would be surfing the world wide web on Myspace. In todays world with the social networking system of Facebook, Myspace has slowly slid off the map. Because of the ability to keep in quick contact with friens from far distances, while sharing networking systems like schools, work places, or universities, Facebook quickly takes the gold. Now i beleive that Myspace will continue to fail, and all of the once profitable qualities of it will be taken by Facebook. What do you think?

Is Myspace Still Around?

With the recent discovery on the Myspace profile of a certain Grove City College faculty member, I though to myself…Does anyone actually use Myspace anymore? Thinking back to my middle school year i remember that if you wanted to be popular, you had to have a Myspace and talk to babes on it.

The demise of Myspace was basically brought down by the explosion of Facebook in my opinion. Although it was originally started as a way to share your music it developed into a powerful social media website that just could not compete with mighty Facebook.

Now even Twitter has surpassed Myspace in the social media world, more or less sealing the death of Myspace.

Digg – Are You a Blog or The New Wiki?

Digg, a social news website made for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the Internet, by submitting links and stories, and voting and commenting on submitted links and stories, has come under some recent controversy, because of how driven the site is by its users. Just like Wikipedia any user that signs on to Digg.com can post any opinion that they feel so true. Because of this, misinformation has begun to take over the majority of the postings upon the site. Users go on, posed as professionals and write nothing but pure opinion, that other users can read and beleive as fact. It is my beleif that in order for somone to post fact on the site they must have other sourses to back up what they are posting. What do you think?
