Dwight Howard slammed with 35k blogging fine

Dwight Howard is being fined 35,000 dollars for a recent post on his blog page. He highlighted the disparity between himself and other players in regards to the number of fouls called each game. He claimed the referees were biased, making him feel like “There was nothing I could do our there and I felt like I couldn’t even move without getting that whistle blown on me“.

I’m sure there’s a lesson to be learned here somewhere, but for Dwight Howard the lesson learned today is an expensive one.

Hugo Chavez adopts twitter

Hugo Chavez has been a controversial figure in world politics. It was only a time before he entered the blogoshere. His reasoning?

“The opposition thinks it owns the social networking sites – they think Twitter and Facebook belong to them.”

Chavez’s first official tweet?

“Hey, how’s it going? I appeared like I said I would: at midnight. I’m off to Brazil. And very happy to work for Venezuela. We will be victorious!!”

Always trying to grab attention, Chavez once went on the air with his radio show for 8 hours and 15 minutes without resting. Will he gather a massive following online? What do you think?

"In-Class Tweet Nets Corporate Rewards"

I read an article in the Collegian today about a student, Andrew Yellis, who tweeted a comment about Peachtree software. Little did he know how far this little tweet would go. He was sitting in class when he said “getting a quick-books demo…in class. Silly professor – doesn’t she know Peachtree is what all the cool people use?” Peachtree saw the tweet, Re-Tweeted it (which is a big deal!) and sent him a thank you package (filled with Starbucks coffee, gift cards, and their latest software) for mentioning their product! He then thanked Peachtree on his public blog and his story ended up on blogs everywhere. Before he knew it he was offered a all-expense paid trip to Atlanta, Georgia (their headquarters) to attend a company conference to “discuss marketing approaches for the online social networking arena. That is the experience of a life time and all because of a little Twitter use. Who knows what other opportunities will arise from from this. Maybe I should get a Twitter account…

music and radio on the web.

So pandora is a popular site for listening to music.  only problem is you can’t exactly choose your songs.

on grooveshark.com you can listen to whatever you want as much as you want.  and you don’t have to have an account, so it’s free.

on stereomood.com you choose what kind of mood your in, and then it plays a list of songs that match up to how you said you were feeling.

both of these services are pretty cool to use, especially if you spend alot of time on you computer and love to listen to new music.

A Better Bargain

I recently discovered a site called Swapmamas.com. Now, I don’t have any kids, but I can appreciate the benefits of this site. The site conducts iteslf somewhat like Ebay, but rather than bidding on items and then purchasing them, you post your child’s outgrown clothes and swap them for a similar amount of clothing that is the size you are looking for. The site relies on the honor system since there is no transfer of money, just an agreement to trade “boxes.” Clothes are expensive and, especially for kids, you can’t use them for long before you need new ones, weather it be because you outgrew them or grew tired of them. If only there was something like this out there for adults! A bona fide fashion swap!
