Chick-Fil-A Goes Global

America’s favorite fast food chain, inventors of the chicken sandwich (but not the chicken of course), have joined facebook.  Individual stores are now being encouraged to include a facebook page in their marketing scheme to advertise and popularize certain special events such as “family night” (kids eat free) or “cow appreciation week” (meet and greet the cows) etc…

All this to say: forget the beef, Eat mor chikin!

Facebook and the Young Entrepreneur

facebookcartoon 300x250 Facebook and the Young Entrepreneur

Doesn't have much to do with the post, I just thought it was funny.

In our class text, Wikinomics, it stresses the importance of ‘mass collaboration’ to the survival and growth of today’s modern business. Mass collaboration (as pertains to business) is the use of the online community and its power/influence in growing a business. One could say it is the lifeblood of the economical future.

What is the largest online community on the Internet? Facebook. So how can Facebook be harnessed for today’s modern business? Better yet, how can I, a young, learning, handsome entrepreneur use Facebook in my small business?

I can think of several ways: 1) Friend request as many people as possible. Suddenly, you have your own focus group and test market. 2) Connections. Facebook connects you with anyone, anywhere, anytime. Meet a possible business partner? Find him on Facebook. 3) Market research. Find out what people’s preferences are, their likes, and their dreams. 4) Target Market. Advertsing with Facebook allows you to specify exactly who sees your ad and who doesn’t. IE. Advertise to the Grove City College network only. 5) Jobs. I will not be surprised when firms hire interns purely on the basis of keeping their Facebook updated and flowing. Nor will I be surprised when Facebook is a class offered at a business university.

Society lives for Facebook!

I’m not going to lie, one of the first things I did when I got on my computer was log onto Facebook. Why is it that we as a society are so addicted to this device? It’s because we love two things… ourselves and dumb distractions.

People spend hours a day on Facebook. Looking at Jenny’s pictures to see what she was up to this weekend, or checking on Joe’s relationship status to see if he broke up with his girlfriend yet. Why do we as a society want to plaster our personal experiences all over the internet? Because we think people are dumb enough to care… and they do! I’m not going to say that I haven’t wasted many an hour stalking through Facebook, but really what’s this all about??? The concept of Facebook is golden, catch up with friends and have a place to share ideas and funny thoughts with people. But it seems as if we have taken it to a new unadulterated extreme. I don’t think Facebook should or will shut down anytime soon. But it would be ideal if we could all calm down a bit, and use it less liberally. Then Facebok can get back to its pure state of comradery.

Five Healthy Reasons to Choose Mate

Mate is a South American drink looking to break through in the US market. It is a cross between coffee and tea. Similar to coffee, mate is high in caffeine and is often used to jump start your day. Mate is prepared from steeping dried leaves that are then put into a gourd. Hot water is poured into the gourd and sipped through a special straw called a bombilla.

Five healthy reasons to choose Mate:

  1. Exhibits significant cancer-fighting activity
  2. Lowers levels of  LDL or bad cholesterol and raises levels of HDL or good cholesterol
  3. It is a mental & physical stimulant
  4. Has been proven to be a hunger suppressant
