dave ramsey 200x300 5 ways to make your goals workRecently I went to the first half of Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership simulcast and really picked up some beneficial info.  I wish I could have stayed for the whole thing.  While I was there, Dave talked about the importance of leading with goals and how they are bite-sized visions.  If you are like me, you probably dream about many things that rarely ever happen.  Dave compared dreams to an image that is blurred by fog or a mist.  Once this image begins coming into focus, it becomes a vision; when they come into focus is when they come into reality.  In order for goals to work, Dave believes they must:

1.  Be specific – Ex: I’m going to lose 10 lbs in 3 weeks.  NOT – I want to lose some weight.

2.  Be measurable – If they are measurable you know when you reach your milestones and can track your progress.

3.  Be yours – Take ownership of them and really want to achieve them.

4.  Have a time limit – State when you are going to reach your goals by.

5.  Be in writing – Write them down and place them in places you will see them often!

It is important to break down your goals.  If you want to lose 30 lbs in three months, that’s 10 lbs a month, 2.5 lbs a week.  If you want to make $100,000 a year, that’s $8334 a month, $2084 a week.  Figure out how many hours you need to work or how many sales you must complete to make it happen.  When you break down your goals it makes them much more achievable.  Setting goals as a leader within your organization can tremendously help it succeed and allows everyone to work together towards a common, much needed goal.

Check out Dave Ramsey’s website for more info on his seminars, They are definitely very beneficial!
