When I was in Elmentary school, I remember speakers coming in for library presentations. They would read us a children’s book, and talk about what it meant to be an author. I remember them telling us how many times they were rejected from Publishing companies, and telling us to not get discouraged doing whatever we loved, because eventually you would come across someone who would accept you and your work the way it was. The fear of endless rejection turned me off from wanting to be a writer when i grew up, but things are different today. A friend on my hall, Jessica Shope, just recently self-published a book titled Beast. She can print as many as she wants, and is now selling them to friends like me to raise money for her summer mission trip. book blog 198x300 Anyone Can Be an Author

There are so many sites now that offer this service to authors, such as Lulu, Blurb, iUniverse, and of course Xulonpress founded by Tom Frieling, the lastest speaker here at GCC. Now, anyone can publish any book with ease. You can choose the size, binding, and paper quality, design your own cover, and so many more features to make your book unique. So this is about as simple as it gets. Share your ideas with the world. With these sites, writing a book can be on anyone’s bucket list. I’ve added it to mine.

  1. This seems like an incredible opportunity for people who may not be able to afford the publishing process. One question I would have about this is editing. Is there someone who reads it before, or is it up to the author to proofread and edit their book themselves?

I believe that most publishing sites offer the option to have someome edit your book and assist you with formatting, but I’m sure that has some steep extra cost. But you are free to publish your book without any editing if you choose to.
