Youtube has created a mass economy that makes use of the internet through social networking. Users can post and view videos and comment on them as well. Youtube is following the vast popularity that has grown with Facebook and Myspace. Businesses are also getting in on the popularity of Youtube. They are taking full advantage of being able to use free content to create revenue from advertising. In this new Youtube era companies need to learn ways to be able to generate revenue through internet content. Being able to advertise on a site like Youtube can help users to spread that content through social networking.

When i think of social networking, i think of Facebook. A way for friends to keep in touch and talk on the internet. It also allows for friends to express how they know each other. It gets down to the root of how people know each other. I also think it allows for people to fully express who they are as well. Users can send each other different gifts and even create groups that other users can join. When it comes to it, i think Facebook defines what a social network can do. The term social networking can be broken down. An individual is social if he communicates with other people. Networking is also about communication, but more of an individual taking the initiative to communicate. If there is an initiative then there is a purpose for taking the initiative to communicate. I think Facebook has used the internet to its advantage in creating a social network.

Second life has been referred to as a game. But a game consists of scores, winners or losers, levels and strategies. There are games inside second life, but the game itself is not a game. Second life consists of avatars. These are digital creations of ones self. Another way I look at it is how the Nintendo Wii has the Mii’s. One feature of an avatar that i find to be interesting is how an avater can move around their digital surroundings. An avatar can walk, run and jump. A feature that is very interesting is that an avatar can also fly. Like in reality, an avatar can also drive a car. An avatar can use a vehicle for status, transportation and also racing. With racing in mind, there are also race tracks that have been built for racing. But if an avatar wants to travel anywhere instantaneously, an avatar can also teleport. An avatar can be created using a digital 3d tool as well. It allows a user to design their avatar anyway they want them to look. It allows a user to be creative and express their imaginations.

Kiva helps entreprenuers in developing countries. Through Kiva, an individual can loan money to these entreprenuers and help poor individuals through their work make economic strides. An individual can also email the person they loaned money to and receive updates on their progress that they are making. An individual can also pick the business they wish to support as well. Also, when your loan is repaid and can withdraw your funds or choose to re-loan them back out to another business of your choice.

Through the use of the internet, developing third world countries is becoming more suffice in helping lesser individuals. I believe that Kiva is already helping making the world a better place. They are making a great use of the internet in helping those less fortunate.

Our generation has seen alot of changes. Doing shopping on the internet has been a huge change. During the holidays and certainly at anytime, more people do shopping on the internet than going to the stores. Ebay has allowed internet users to be able to buy items not only in stores but also items that you might not be able to find in stores anymore as well. It also allows users to sell items that they might not want anymore also. In doing so, allow the person selling an item to make money. I always hear about ebay especially around the holidays. When there is a hot item, if it is not available in stores, i can always check it on ebay. The only problem with this, especially around xmas time, is that the buyer will probably pay more for the item on ebay than if they were able to buy it in the store.
