“Goodbye Weak Stream, Hello Laserbeam”

Believe it or not, the fake promo you are about to watch is for a real product.

I love the way that the product has taken something probably very difficult to market and figured out a way to virally spread it!

Crash the Superbowl

Pepsi Max and Doritos  branched out with their Crash the Superbowl challenge. The brands challenged America to make their own commercials for either one or both of the brands to be aired in during the Super Bowl. The top 10 finalists received $25,000 with those voted top 6 were aired in the Super Bowl. But it didn’t stop their! The brands offered $1 million, $600,000, and $400,000 to a finalist if their commercial rated 1st, 2nd, or 3rd (respectively) in the USA Today Ad Meter.

This was a brilliant marketing campaign for Pepsi and Doritos. It not only brought them a lot of attention by those trying to win but they benefited from the creative minds of America

Dewmocracy!

A cool example of a collaborative marketing scheme comes in the form of DEWMOCRACY. In July 2009, Mountain Dew launched a campaign called Dewmocracy calling on fans to create a brand new DEW-everything from flavor names to advertising.

Mountain Dew sent out flavor testing to over 200,000 fans and came back with the top 3 flavors. From there, the fans picked the top 3 colors to match the flavors. Next the Dewmocracy incorporated Twitter-they posted 3 names for each of the 3 flavors and asked fans to follow their choice of a name for the new DEW. DEW fans were also challenged to make a label design and a 12 second advertising commercial for their favorite DEW. The incentives were $10,000 and MacBook Pro computers.

After all of these were done, the people were left with the three choices: Typhoon, Distortion, and White Out. The people voted and Mountain Dew White Out is now the 2010 Dew flavor. Chosen for the people by the people.

Consistency in all things

I think a very important aspect to a business is consistency. This might seem like a simple concept but I think that is something that a lot of businesses miss. When I say consistency, I mean that in a few different senses: logo, style, and quality

A major marketing rule is that you never mess with your business’s logo once in place. Although, at face value it might seem like a simple word, name, or picture it gives customers familiarity and security. This is important across everything a business does- it is vital for developing your brand

Beyond just a logo is a businesses colors and styles. Everywhere from a website, to the Facebook page, to Twitter, to the store front, a business needs to remain consistent in its style. If a business wanders away from that style, it can result in making customers or visitors feel uncomfortable or think that they are in the wrong place.

Finally, one of the most important aspects of a business is to remain consistent in its value. Whatever the product or service, it will be the consistent quality that can set a business apart and continue to bring traffic to a business
