LinkedIn Letdown

A social network for business professionals. Although this sounds like a good idea, I have yet to hear any LinkedIn success stories. For me the whole idea of making friends to get hired seemed a bit utilitarian. Also, the interface seemed a bit complicated and unnecessarily unattractive. Therefore, I never did more with LinkedIn than create a profile and send a few friend requests to people that I could have just called on the phone in the first place. I may be missing out on some great career opportunities by not actively using LinkedIn, but to me, those missed opportunities just aren’t worth the cost.

Vimeo: the better alternative

I have had a long history of problems with youtube. I don’t know if others have had similar problems, but something between me and youtube just doesn’t click. That’s why I prefer to use Vimeo to view my favorite online videos. Not only does Vimeo have an interface that is more appealing, but it also has more of the artistic videos that I prefer to watch. In conclusion, I don’t think youtube will leave anytime soon, but if you would a change of landscape, head over to Vimeo and see what you’ve been missing.

Twitter: a strange bird

So I have been a twitter user for a while now. (Does that make me a tweeter?) Along with the strange verbiage used with twitter, I am constantly impressed with the dynamic nature of this social media phenomenon. Here is a tool that users can and in fact do redefine every day with information ranging from important world events to nonsensical shout outs to friends. I find it particularly curious that different people groups see different purposes for twitter. Maybe this is due to the idea twitter is the one place where we can all share our thoughts, or maybe twitter is just a fad that will soon fly away.
