Before entering Internet Entrepreneurship, I was your typical college student who had a profile on Facebook and used it a couple of times per day without ever thinking about the web of business ideas that embark on it daily. Maybe this was because I am a Math Secondary Ed. Major and attempt to find a job in other means, but in reality I realized that its not good to be naïve on the social networking opportunities right before your eyes!

After reading blogs about how Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn were started, funded, managed, used advertising, and created successful job opportunities I began to think about social networking in a new light. It is not something to just find out how people are doing, but can be used to actually find a job!

Not only have my eyes been opened to seeing the networks online, but my ears are open when I hear about these networks on the radio or television. Before understanding and trying out LinkedIn or Twitter I probably would have not even really heard talk show hosts say the names of the networks; however, after I have been exposed to them I can relate to the topics and understand their worth.

Overall, I have found social networking skills to be the most beneficial tools I have researched this semester, and who knows maybe one day I won’t want to teach and I can try one of these networks or some sort of new technology that is worth exploring!

Find a Race in Any State

I am an avid runner, but sometimes it is difficult to motivate myself without some form of competition.  What is nice about running in a more distance style is that there are opportunities to enter races that draw runners just like you.  The difficult task however is finding a race in the location you want and in the time that you want.  I was looking for some races for the summer and came across a GREAT website that gives information on races in the United States.

Running in the USA is a website that allows you to pick any state in the United states and it displays all of the races and their location in that state.  What is even nicer is when you click the link it automatically opens the registration document that you simply have to fill out and send to the designated address.

WHPHr Find a Race in Any State

If you want to only see 5k’s, half-marathons, marathons, ultras, triathlons, or trail runs there are links specifically for those races.  Additionally if you decide to register you can post on the message board which can be helpful to ask more professional runners about workouts or any kind of injury you  may have.

Overall, Running in the USA is a great tool if you are looking for a race, training, or want to become involved with runners all over the United States.

How does Digg make money?

This seems to be a common question on google.  I was looking around the Digg site, and found it interesting, but not many advertisements so I began to wonder myself.  Just how does Digg make money?  I went back to google and typed it in and all that came up were more questions!

digg How does Digg make money?

I found 3 links immediately with people wondering the same thing.  After more further research I still just could not find ANYTHING regarding how Digg would make money.  I am sure that they are some way other than merely advertisements due to the expansion they have achieved, but I am extremely curious of just how they do.

So I leave the question: Just how does DIGG make money?

Feeling lucky?

google chuck norris Feeling lucky?I use the search engine, Google daily and almost every time I entered the homepage I would wonder what is this “I am feeling lucky” button, so I decided to find out!

The “I’m feeling lucky” button eliminates the search of every website with the possible keyword that you type in and sends you directly to the number one site in their database.  It is a user friendly button that decreases advertisements that sometimes get in the way of your search.

The button costs Google $110 million per year and yet less than 1% of their users take advantage of it.  So is this beneficial?  Google does not receive any capital from advertisement using this button, so it is clearly an expense, but it is beneficial because it keeps some users coming back.  If it were not there some users might switch to Yahoo, Ask.com, or any of the other competing search engines.

Google has been the number one search engine for the past three years, and maybe one of the reasons is they keep things like “I’m feeling lucky” that help the user but are not necessarily the most profitable applications.
