Kiva is a great sight that really seeks to help others. It makes it easy for people to get involved and really help out. People don’t even have to donate they just have to lend. This makes the site much less scary because it’s not some permanent commitment.  Kiva also makes it easy and simple to lend or donate. It’s nice that people don’t have to hassle with figuring the site out. Kiva is smart because they keep their goals and mission very clear and concise. They state they are a non-profit company and they talk about how they stay going. This sort of awareness helps people believe and trust in the site.

Kiva is also clever because they aren’t just giving people gifts they are actually helping them more so in the long run. They stimulate the economy and give people abroad the ability to take out loans without free of getting stuck. It’s great how it connects people around the world and lets them do something little that can mean so much to someone else. Its a great idea and its very helpful to many people. It give people a chance to give back through means that are easy to access and use.

It’s amazing how one can start a whole company just through the internet. It seems so normal to us now but 20 years ago an idea like that wasn’t even imaginable. And people can start companies just by teaching people how to utilize the internet and advertising. It was amazing how Scoot and Bryan’s small idea worked out and sparked more ideas. They took a hold of advertising and social networks and their idea caught on fire. They also pointed out things that I didn’t even think about. Like how when I wasn’t in a relationship on facebook tons of singles ads would come up on my side bar, and now that I have a relationship status there are always wedding advertisements. It’s funny how you are being fed media when you don’t even realize it. But its genius how they boys put ads up that people can relate to. Once they like the ads they know what sort of people they can advertise too. And how if you click on ads they can take you to other related things. It’s useful for the entrepreneur and the user. If company’s an entrepreneurs can learn how to utilize these tools they can really focus in on the customers and target them in a whole different way. A way where the customer allows themselves to be targeted and they chose who will target them. Its easier now for new companies to get started on the internet because they can really focus in on who they want to market to.

So I’ve been researching internships for the summer and I found one that caught my interest. There was an internship for Heinz and its sole purpose was to study social media. They needed people that could use and had a knowledge of facebook and twitter. I found it interesting that they had positions open for the study of it. It goes to show that it effects our lives so much that it effects business and how its done. I think that the position would be really interesting in itself to see how they plan on using the information the interns would gather.

I’m not sure if they are looking for new ways to advertise. Or maybe they are looking for ways to reach out to people by looking at what people are posting. Its smart that they are looking into this field because it is so important to so many people.

Linked in is a site for business professionals whos operations are somewhat similar to facebook. It provides a way for companies and those willing to be employed to find each other. This seems like an easy solutions to job searchs and networking, but it may be more complicated than that. Although this provides an easy way for people to find each other it can also serve as a barrier to reality. Someone can make a profile for themselves that isn’t totally truthful or real. So employers and employees alike need to be careful.

I once had a professor talk about the pros and cons of linked in. she said that she tries to use linked in as little as possible. It may be good networking but sometime its uncontrollable. She worries that just because she is friends with someone on linked in people will interpret it as her recommending them to certain employers. She wants to make sure that when she does try and network people she is suggesting people that she has full confidence in. Sending a bad worker to an employer could in turn give her a bad reputation and prevent other hard workers from being recommended. The site has its pros and cons, it just needs to be used carefully by all. Although joining linked in could definitely be to your advantage whether you are searching or looking.

I thought it would be interesting to write about Google, or more so the concept of Google. It’s strange to think that our parents didn’t have any of the technology we have now when they were in school. Even something as simple as Microsoft word we take for granted. Using a type writer would be an awful existence in college years. Plus every word I wrote would be misspelled. But as a society we so take advantage of Google search. I wonder how they looked up anything back then. And I don’t mean the type of research you get from a  book. I mean things like what time a store closes, or movie times, or even what artist sings the song you just heard on the radio. Google provides us with so much information it takes the work out of now simple things. But the question is, is that a good thing? To have so much information so easily accessible. I feel as if we are getting lazy. Don’t get me wrong I use it more than anyone should to look up things I should already know. its almost like you don’t have to be that knowledgeable to get what you want because you can simply look it up. what’s the point of memorizing something if you can just look it up later? And you think if I will have to know that on the job or something I can just look it up from my smart phone. I would never want Google to end, but if it did I feel like we would all be dumb to say the least. Google is our crutch, and we depend on it much too much.
