Mass Effect 2, developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox 360, hit shelves this past Tuesday. The long awaited sequel of critically acclaimed Mass Effect has received very positive reviews in the first few days since its release. The futuristic Sci-Fi RPG received a score of 96/100 from Metacritic and has a composite user rating of 91%, making it the highest rated game of 2010.

The plot picks up three years after the original story and has an array of new features, including a new combat system. There are also scores of new weapons and characters. One of the new characters in Commander Shepherd’s squad, Thane Krios (pictured below), is an assassin who not only has an awesome name, but  an intriguing background story as well.

The PC version of the game retails for $49.99, with the console version being available for $59.99. A Collector’s Edition can also be obtained for an extra $10.00. Both versions of the game received a “Mature” rating by the ESRB. BioWare intends to release downloadable content for the game following its release.
