Penny Bidding, Quibids.com

Its like Ebay with lower prices and a different kind of system. I’ll explain. They present the site with a page showing lots of absurd deals; ipads for $3.00, TV’s for $4.00. Then they ask you to put bids on the items. Each bid is a couple of cents more than the previous bid.

Here is the catch, before you start you pay the site for a set amount of bids, around $60. Then you can begin bidding on any items they have on auction, each bid is like 5 cents. But the other catch is, each bid costs you money even if you don’t win.

This site could save you a lot of money, but it is risky. How many bids are you willing to put in? How high a price do you want to pay? And when is it actually saving you money?

This is up to the buyer.

If done right you could save a lot of money, if not then its pretty much a casino.

Twitter: the day by day Autobiography

2382680812 34858bec65 Twitter: the day by day Autobiography

Twitter, “the best way to discover what’s new in your world.”

I don’t own an account and I don’t understand what it is all about. From my perspective it is a way for a self-absorbed society to talk about themselves and expect other people to care. Now, some people have more of a reason than others because people care about famous people (for some reason). A lot of famous people have very popular twitter accounts, that people can follow and see what they are doing. Its still under the assumption that people care what they think and do every second of the day.

I am being negative. Twitter definitely could be used in a non self-absorbed way. If you and your family or friends don’t live near each other it is a way of staying up to date on the day day doings of those people close to you. This kind of social media could bring families together in a way that not many other websites do.

I will have to give twitter a chance before I condemn it.

Data Rich, Information Poor

The internet let a single person have more information at their figure tips than is stored in a library.  If a fifth grade was doing a report on lion and typed “lions” into Google he would get 104,000,000 results.  The problem with the internet is that there is so much information that it is impossible to find what someone actually wants.  Google has become a 200 billion dollar company by trying to develop a search engine that helps people find what they are looking for.  Even with Google however there is just so much data that it is nearly impossible to sift through the data.  Data is just noise to the use it needs to be turned into meaningful information so they can use it.

Too much information Data Rich, Information Poor

Wherever there is a problem there is the potential for an entrepreneur to come in and find a solution.  People are calling out for ways to find the useful information and block all the spam or useless data.  Websites like the Drudge Report or other information blogs allow people to just go to one website instead of looking for all the information themselves.  As entrepreneurs there is a great potential to become an expert in a specific area and develop ways to simplify and condense the information for users.  Blogs are a great way to write about your expertise in an area and if enough people are interested then you can leverage it to make money.  People need people to look through all the data that the internet provides and turn it into meaningful information.
