Many people waste time on Facebook. I on the other hand spend most of my time on NewSchoolers. Everytime I open up the internet, I go to Newschoolers. If I had to briefly describe the site, I’d say it’s Facebook and eBay put together for skiers. You can see the current skiing news, look at pictures, see product reviews, enter in competitions, and event buy and sell skiing equipment.
Newschoolers.com is the greatest forum site I have ever come across. Most action sport forums are plain gray and white, with only a few different things for visitors to do. Newschoolers is very different. The website homepage is vibrant, and displays a slider showing the most popular skiing news as well as current competitions and top rated videos. It is becoming very popular among the freestyle skiing community. Most of the guys that ski the terrain park at my local mountain have the black NS on their helmet, tall T, or sewn onto their pants.
Once you become a member of the site, you can comment on pics and videos submitted by other viewers, post in the gear discussion forums, and create threads in the buy/sell/trade forum. I have sold over $500 worth of equipment, and purchased well over a $1000 worth of skiing gear without a problem. As you do more and more transactions, you build up your karma, or legitimacy. Those with more karma are usually the more reliable, trusted seller.
As I mentioned earlier, members can participate in contests put on by the popular freestyle brands such as Saga and FirstDrop Outerwear, or ski brands like LINE, Armada, etc. Unfortunately, I have not won a contest, but did finish third in a video contest put on by Salomon skis.
Another interesting asset of the site is the Community tab. In this part of the forum, you can connect with local freestyle skiers. Whether your looking for a regular ski buddy, or want to trade a pair of skis, you can always find NS members in your area.
The reason why I love this site so much is the fact that it’s a site made by skiers, for skiers. Young amateurs can connect with the pros like Tom Wallisch, and watch their trick tips or contest runs. Newschoolers doesn’t ask for money, but a small donation will make your username move up the totem pole. They are dedicated to the members and provide the greatest social network for skiers. So, check them out! Click here to go to NewSchoolers.com
