Radiohead is following in the foot steps of Nine Inch Nails they are releasing their current album for free on their site. Interestingly it has brought great success to both bands. All one must do to get a copy of their album On Rainbows is add it to the cart and they can enter the price and then a download link appears. One can pay any amount they want or not pay at all. The band is releasing it this way in hopes that people who download the album for free then will buy the album.
Nine Inch Nails in the past has went out and did special eddition cds for the people who actually buy the album. NIne inch Nails variation on the situation is its only free for so long and then eventually goes up to a nominal 5 dollar download fee. Radiohead hasnt released yet if they will get rid of the free album yet or not but a cool feature and a good way to get a new album if you would like. Sometimes one has to give out their album to show that they still care about their fans. In the day and age where fans feel disconnected from their favorite stars this is a nice change to the situation.
One Response to “Radiohead free album”

I thought it was really cool when Nine Inch Nails released their album for free online, so it is nice to see someone else doing the same. I can’t imagine that they will be able to keep it free for that long though. Unless people don’t know about being able to buy the album for free, they aren’t gonna make any money off of it. Anyone that wants an actual cd version of it will just burn it onto a blank cd after they downloaded it. I still like the idea though.
