The National Hot Rod Association Nationals were going smoothly in Chandler, Arizona, until Antron Brown crashed in the first round of eliminations on Sunday.

Brown was racing Troy Buff until his left rear tire separated from the car and he quickly lost control of the vehicle. He crossed the center lane and slammed into the retaining wall creating a massive fireball.

Miraculously Brown was not injured in the horrific crash, but one female spectator was struck by a piece of debris that flew into the crowd and airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. The Gila River Police Department announced that the woman eventually died from the injury.

With all of the technology that they have in these cars and vast amounts of money that they have invested into these facilities it amazes me that officials never thought this one out. After this story broke online just minutes after it actually happened, there were immediately thousands of people who gathered together on the web protesting for safer conditions for spectators at these events.
