Both Wikipedia and Knol are websites that allow individuals to post articles on virtually any subject that interests them. However, articles posted by users on Knol are not checked for consistency while Wikipedia articles are commonly rated on their bias and consistency. Essentially, Knol is less of an encyclopedia and more of a community of user articles.
Moreover, Knol allows users to set up an account and collaborate with other authors on subject of interest. Through this community collaboration, Knol guides its users toward similar articles to give the user insight into their topic of interest. In this regard, Knol is clearly differentiated from Wikipedia.
Knol also provides a variety of unique options for its users including audio playback capabilities, forums, and tutorials. Wikipedia, in many aspects, appears less user friendly yet perhaps more reliable with its sources.
